The European Union of Judicial Officers (UEHJ), represented by its Secretary General, Patrick Gielen, participated on 16 & 17 September in the DG JUST Calls 2025 Kick off Meeting, organised in Brussels by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Justice and Consumers.
The meeting brought together beneficiaries of projects supported by DG JUST in order to assist them with the implementation of actions co-funded by the European Union. The sessions covered the legal and contractual framework of EU grants, reporting, financial management, project delivery, as well as the evaluation and dissemination of project results.
Exchanges with the European Commission’s Project Officers provided a clearer understanding of the requirements applicable at every stage: compliance with agreed objectives, the quality of deliverables, impact monitoring and the sustainability of activities beyond the funding period. Particular attention was paid to reaching the intended professional groups and ensuring that project results are disseminated widely and effectively.
Stronger cooperation for judicial training
The two-day meeting was also an opportunity to meet UEHJ’s European partners, including EIPA (European Institute of Public Administration) and ERA (Academy of European Law). UEHJ is currently involved with them in two European training projects.
The first focuses on emerging technologies applied to justice, in particular artificial intelligence and blockchain. The second addresses the digitalisation of European judicial procedures. These projects aim to strengthen the skills of judicial officers and other justice professionals as justice systems undergo digital transformation.
A European and professional priority
UEHJ’s participation in this Kick off Meeting forms part of its commitment to the modernisation of European justice, judicial cooperation and professional training. It reflects the European priorities highlighted by the Commission: the digitalisation of justice, stronger practitioner skills and improved access to justice.
Through its active participation in these initiatives and its cooperation with specialised partners, UEHJ is helping prepare the profession for the technological developments transforming justice across Europe.
