The 114th Congress of the DGVB e. V. took place in Mainz from 21 to 23 May 2026, bringing together judicial officers and institutional representatives to discuss the current and future challenges facing the profession in Germany and across Europe.
The UEHJ was represented by Doreen Donner, member of the UEHJ, and Oscar Jans, Secretary of the UEHJ and Judicial Officer in the Netherlands. Their participation provided an opportunity to further strengthen professional and European cooperation with German colleagues and to continue exchanges on key issues affecting the profession.
The congress opened with the Annual General Meeting of the DGVB Social Welfare Association, followed by the official opening of the working conference. Discussions focused on ongoing legislative developments, proposed amendments to the statutes presented by the Fundamental Principles Commission, public relations matters, and the activity report of the Federal Executive Board.
As part of the report on European affairs, particular emphasis was placed on European and international cooperation activities. Special attention was given to participation in meetings of the European Judicial Network in Brussels, especially regarding the European Regulations on the Service of Documents and the Taking of Evidence, as well as the ongoing challenges related to electronic service of documents in Germany. International exchanges and professional events held in Algiers, Paris, Georgia, and Portugal were also highlighted, together with discussions on societal changes, enforcement procedures, evictions, and the exchange of best practices at international level.
The second day of the congress focused on technical and organisational matters, including developments relating to electronic case management systems, security issues, reports from regional associations, and preparations for the 2027 Trade Union Congress. Upcoming professional events in Osnabrück and Berlin were also presented.
